Offered as a premium health benefit to clients' employees, WellTrack is a data-rich app that encourages holistic wellness. Some names and logos are changed under NDA.
The problem
Users of the original portal were greeted with 'This application works best on desktop or tablet.' More than half of online activity was already on mobile. A generic, purchased theme presented rich health data as dull, text-heavy pages, which got in the way of clients, sales staff, and growth.
What it needed to do
- Appointment creation, cancellation, suggestions, and reminders
- Live video appointments (Twilio SDK)
- Health data aggregation via API, manual entry, and proprietary algorithms
- Real-time data visualization
- Chat with notifications, and two-factor login
Process
Vision-casting with stakeholders, a review of user feedback, and a portal audit led to personas and a planning document. Low-fidelity wireframes were checked with developers for feasibility, then became a high-fidelity prototype tested one-on-one with users.
Design and code
I built the front end myself and restyled the web app in three weeks. I then wrote a CSS-rich design system to support a contract Xamarin developer turning it into a native app.
Results
Stakeholders and their clients met the new apps with renewed excitement, and interactions per user more than doubled.
