ND Riot

ND Riot

A platform connecting independent comic creators and readers — and the first step toward creators negotiating with printers and vendors as a group. I founded it, designed the brand, and built it.

The problem

Independent comic creators work alone: finding readers, choosing conventions, and negotiating with printers one creator at a time. ND Riot gives them a focused place to be found, and a community that can eventually negotiate as a group.

What I did

  • Gathered requirements from creators
  • Established the brand and design system
  • Prototyped, demoed, and refined
  • Built the platform in Next.js and Sanity, deployed on Vercel and Cloudflare, working with Claude Code

Designed not to rank people

Discovery on ND Riot is user-directed: visible filters, a random hero, and no engagement-based ranking of creators. Nothing is inferred about what a reader 'should' see.

I'm also a user

I publish my own comics on ND Riot, so I test it from both sides.
